Multitrace Attributes

Create advanced seismic attributes to conditionconventional amplitude seismic data for better structural and stratigraphicinterpretation tasks, as well as enable powerful 3D volume interpretationworkflows.

Workflow

Multitrace attributes in the PetrelE&P platform enable key workflows for the seismic interpreter. Theseworkflows range from helping to identify and delineate structural andstratigraphic elements in exploration for rapid prospect identification, toextracting maximum value from seismic data by providing more detail on thesubtle lithological variations of the reservoir in the development orproduction phase.

Using multitrace attributes, you canenhance the fault signature of the data by calculating variance or chaos, or byfiltering structural smoothing with the edge enhancement option.

Delineate complex fault structures

Attributes including 3D curvature,variance, and dip-guided variance help the interpreter to delineate complexfault structures and in fracture identification. A variety of workflows canalso be derived using a combination of attributes to precondition the data forbetter horizon autotracking or fault interpretation, and as input to the AntTracking workflow.

Attribute volumes can be used directlyfor horizon autotracking purposes or they can be used as an input in thegeobody isolation and extraction process for improved reservoircharacterization.

Isolate frequency-dependent changes

Iso-frequency helps the interpreterunderstand the contribution of individual frequencies to the make-up of theinput seismic signal. This is particularly useful for isolating frequency-dependentchanges in the signal, such as stratigraphic thinning and fluid effects.

A fully integrated genetic inversionalgorithm enables geophysicists and geologists to more accurately predictinter-well properties from seismic data. AVO reconnaissance workflows areenabled through the use of post-stack AVO attributes, combined with the SeismicVolume Rendering & Extraction module.

Other workflows include the following:

Blend attributes together to better isolate structural andstratigraphic elements.

Precondition the data for seismic facies extraction using relativeacoustic impedance or the chaos attribute to isolate salt bodies.

Combine attributes and generate users' own attributes using theseismic calculator.​​

Features

Complementing the volume and surfaceattribute libraries, multitrace attributes in the Petrel platform give youaccess to more than 40 attributes that can be instantly calculated directly atinterpreted events, on nearby uninterpreted events, or between events.

Key features include the following:

Advanced attributes, including structural smoothing,iso-frequency, variance, 3D curvature, and chaos.

Poststack AVO attributes, including AVO fluid strength, for AVOreconnaissance.

Attributes like Phase shift provide enhanced support for lowfrequencies, typical in broadband data.

Genetic inversion—multilayer neural networks as well as geneticalgorithms are combined to provide an estimation of rock properties usingseismic amplitude and the acoustic impedance well logs as training data.

All attributes can be created in virtual mode, allowing the userto interactively control the parameters for quick screening and fine tuningwithout using extra disk space
