【内容简介】
This study focuses on a field site located in a karstic carbonate reservoir situated in the Montpellier area (Lez aquifer, Southern France). Well tests and field observations at the Terrieu experimental site indicate that the aquifer is highly heterogeneous and that the main flow paths correspond to fracture and karst conduits. However, difficulties in characterizing the geometry and location of main conduits lead to significant uncertainty in modelling the hydrodynamic behaviour of the karst aquifer.
To address this uncertainty and better to assess main flow paths within the aquifer, here we develop a systematic discrete fracture and matrix (DFM) modelling approach. Firstly, a conceptual model which capture the main productive pathways are developed to represent the flow network at the experimental site scale. We do this by integrating outcrop and pressure transient data. The outcrop data collected near the Terrieu site provides geometry and statistics of the fracture network, while the analytical interpretation of the Terrieu pumping tests provides the initial hydraulic properties of the flow features. The conceptual model is then used to simulate a key well test at the Terrieu site.
By following the proposed approach, the local-scale flow model that produces similar hydraulic behaviours comparing to field observations can be determined. This gives some confidence in the hydrogeological understanding of groundwater flow in the Lez aquifer at the experimental site scale.
