Title:Modifications to the Streamline Pseudofunction Algorithm for 2-D to 1-D and 2-D to 2-D Scale-Up
Author:Rakesh Kumar
Year:2001
Degree:MS
Abstract:
To date there has been a lot of effort put into formulating a mechanism to upscale a very
fine-scale numerical model generated by geostatisticians to a scale that is manageable by a
reservoir simulator. However, each method seems to work well in a narrow range of problems.
In 1998, Hewett and Archer came up with a methodology of a streamtube method ñ based on the research of Yamada, which seemed to be a very general tool box applicable to most problems. However, there were shortcomings in that methodology too. This project takes a step back to strengthen the revolutionary concept of streamtube methods. The major changes that were brought about with this study were the treatment of wells, rectifying the discrepancies in scales of upscaling owing to the use of different programs for upscaling absolute permeability, the suggestion of a more robust method for directional pseudorelative permeability generation and provisions for non-uniform upscaling and the possibility of using full tensors. Apart from the conceptual changes, a few implementation procedures were changed so as to use the restart information from a reservoir simulator to the fullest extent.
