Facies Interpretation Facies analysis is a common practice in the surface geology, where the amount of information allows us to reach a high understating level. Excepting some cases, generally these studies are not projected with oil exploration and development purposes.

The developments made in high resolution borehole images (FMI) acquisition represent a new frontier in subsurface geology studies, allowing for a graphical and continuous observation of certain features that would otherwise not be detectable using others tools.

Although FMI images are based on microresistivity measurements, they are capable of showing true characteristics of the rock, like textures, fabrics and structures of any kind. Therefore their study provides means of analyzing the rocks and formations in a very similar way as if it would be done through the direct observation of the rock, thus being a very valuable tool for subsurface interpretations.
